I've emailed Steve, and I know he has listened to all the competitors and coaches in reworking certain parts of the rules.

My personal preference would include more ground time.  I think that the regular Sambo limit of 1 minute would allow for more ground skills to be used.  I think that the 30 second limit really reduces the number of techniques and entries that can be used effectively.

Also, if somebody does pass or sweep, I would like to see them have a bit more time to do something from the position.  I saw a couple of times where somebody changed to a dominant position (via pass or sweep) where they could begin attacking, and then had to stand up almost immediately.  I know that the rules are trying to prevent slow stalling matches, but that definitely wasn't a concern at this show; I don't remember a single stalling penalty being given.

While the rules are a work in progress, I think that it is great what Steve has done so far to bring the different disciplines together.

it was not the right conditions to compare their "ground games".  If there was no ground time limit I believe the difference in the ground game would have been more evident.

I agree with this...a very fair comment.

The newer version of the rules are now up on www.battleofbrooklyn.com

1 minute GT will be more realistic. Also, we went back to the sambo standard of only allowing GT score once per match (Once for bottom and once for top). This takes away the need for the ref to make judgement calls and encourages more sub attempts since points won't be available as often.

James, you were awsome, I was very glad to have you there!! You definitely fought very hard and represented BJJ with honor!
