This leg isolation can be done off the "rolling toe hold" (from inside someone's De La Riva guard), off the kneebar (switching to the other foot to attack it... my personal favorite), or from a variety of other positions.

If you end up on top of the person, a good rule of thumb for getting the knee bent (someone on that OTHER thread on the wrong forum mentioned this) is "toe to butt."  The funniest way I've had that part described to me is "try to put their big toe inside their butthole."  Disgusting?  Yes.  Accurate?  You bet.

So step 1 is isolating the other leg, whether locking it between your knees or pinning it down.
Step 2 is bending their knee (toe to butt).
Step 3 is the actual application of the submission.  This comes from two separate pressures:
A:   inward pressure (the hand on the toes applies this pressure)
B:   outward pressure (the hand on your own wrist applies this pressure)

Further improving step 3, you can grab your own hand instead of grabbing your own wrist.  This tiny adjustment has made the difference more times than I can count for me when finishing the figure-4 footlock.

I wish i had a sidekick so, you could send me this stuff and I could remeber it all.  I guess it's pen a paper...  Sad

Thanks for the great info though.  Thumbs Up

    i'll try it tonight.

    Won't help, you suck

Yeah... A lot of the time I'll have some technique I'm really excited to try out.... Then I never get the opportunity or forget to use it in practice.

    Bend his knee.
If the knee is bent the toe hold is stronger.
