How many times does this have to be said?  Even ignoring the amazing training environment the guy created, his presence TRIPLED the student enrollment.

What is your point? No one said he wasnt a good investment.  Thats not what this thread is about.

What is my point?  You asked what he brought to the table besides his talent.  I told you.  That is my point, numbnuts.

"I mean he was only working 10 hours a week at Studio X, right?"

He was teaching 3-4 days a week, two classes a day...and actively training and rolling with his student during the classes.

If you wanna add up the physical hours, add up the physical hours for any bjj teacher and tell me how many hours they work.

I would guess there isnt many bjj teachers in the world with his credentials that teach more hours- Roger? Xande? Saulo? Renzo?  I'm not sure...

"Was he not given full ability to charge 6 grand a weekend or whatever he charges for seminars ? And travel to do them whenever he wanted."

"And also the ability to teach 300 an hour privates?"

He did all of this on his own time.  Unless we are dealing with some new funky accounting method, I dont think any of this money should be credited towards Studio X or the partners.

"To me, it seems like he had a pretty fair deal. But thats just me."

You would be wrong.  He was not being paid a lot of money, nor was he asking for a lot more.

"Was he bringing anything to the table but his ability?"

What else is a bjj teacher supposed to do?  He did teach us BJJ.  He brought in a ton of new students.  He had some of the best people come and train with us- ie. Dave Camarillo, Mark Laimon, Hermes Franca, Mark Bocek, Xande Riberio, etc.

He also went above and beyond the call of duty- he told me to lose weight, offered to talk to my wife when she was pissing me off, and bought me lunch and dinner a few times.

If you know how much I eat, thats a very generous offer.

MRC who are you?

My name is Matt.  Just like Ari, I'm a real person who has been affected by this, not some troll here to stir s**t.

"correct me if Im wrong, but the root of the problem is the inability to reach an agreement between Dan and Marcelo, right ?"

I wouldnt say thats really a problem.  Thats life.  Dan's a smart business man, and MG is beginning to learn how much he is worth and valued.  If MG and the partners couldnt come to an agreement, I think there would be some pissed off people, but most would understand and the thread wouldnt get to 24 pages long.

The major problem lies in the fact that Marcelo's name is attached to this huge lawsuit that he has no involvement with.  Everyone involved knows he has nothing to do with it.  So why put him on it?

However, since he's on it, he has to leave.  You've heard from lawyers on this thread stating what a monumental pain in the ass even frivolous lawsuits are.

Now imagine you are 25 years old, just moved from Brazil, just learned the language, and just wanna train and teach.  Now you are hit with a million+ lawsuit from a guy that can hire Fedor to cook him his meals everyday, and what are you going to do?

And this gets turned around on MG somehow?  He charges too much for seminars and privates?  He teaches too little?

Loyalty is loyalty.  Friendships are Friendships.  I'm not telling people to hate one person of another.

I'm all about Marcelo Garcia, and in this instance Marcelo Garcia didnt do anything wrong.

Now when he leads classes, and puts me through long ass warm ups, and 10 minute rounds, and then tells me to move more, then Yes, thats when he is wrong.

But not in this instance.

That would be awesome Giggy.  I've seen Leo's teaching on the web and he seems like an awesome teacher.

Now if you are going for MG, I would say you should wait until he decides where he's going to end up.

"well if marcelo didn't accept the deal that he was offered....how can you blame josh?"

Two seperate, yet entangled issues going on....things I'm just getting clarified to me now.

MG didnt accept the offer.

Yet he was still teaching at Studio X.  Why?  I dont know.  Maybe he was hoping everyone would work it out?  Maybe he couldnt stand not seeing my fat ass.  No idea...

But what we do know is that MG left Studio X because of the lawsuit that he was named on from $$$ partner.

People are pissed at Josh because Josh's name is also on the lawsuit (I believe), against MG and Fabio.

Fabio is pissed because Josh signed a contract to work with Dan without him knowing, even though Fabio and Dan were still partners in the business.

Fabio (and others) are pissed because they believe Josh convinced Dan that MG was worth a certain amount of money, and Dan agreed to that amount.

Dietzel is pissed because he still hasnt gotten a free t shirt from Fabio.

Ground Hog should be pissed because this thread is 24 pages long, and he hasnt posted on it yet.

I just wanted to add that I love BJJ politics. It's better than any soap opera out there.  I can't get enough of reading this s**t.

This is my first post ever on this site so I wanted to lose my virginity on this thread!!

My condolences to all the students at Studio X for losing Marcelo.

I got this in .pdf file- its public record, so I dont feel bad about posting it.

Its 20 pages long, and I dont know how to post it other than opening the pdf, print screening, cut and pasting on ms paint, and then uploading to photobucket to show here...so it could take a few minutes.
