Carlos Diaz or Eddie Camden? Legit bjj instructor?
« on: February 05, 2008, 08:08:01 PM »
My little brother just signed up at "destin mixed martial arts" (http://www.destinmma.com) In Florida.  The head instructor's name is Carlos Diaz, he has been training "gracie JJ for 6 years" under Sifu Eddie Camden (a BB under Pedro Sauer?) and i was wondering if anyone had any info on either.  Eddie Camden's school is the Tiger Academy of Martial Arts (http://www.tigeracademy.com/)  Eddie's school is in Atlanta.

thanks

Eddie Camden is  a legit guy and trains quality jiu jitsu and mma guys.   His school is great if the guy trained under Eddie and has Eddies blessing he is a good guy for sure and very trustworthy.  Eddie is old school and been in the game for a while.     Good luck hope that helps

eddie is a legit guy.  direct from Pedro, he was actually one of pedros first BB.  I cant speak for Carlos, but if he has been training W/ Eddie & Pedor for 6 years, he's gotta be decent...

in the end though, it all comes down to compatibility....

Thanks guys for the quick response, Eddie definitly sounds legit, but this guy only goes to train with him 1x a month (says on his site) so i'm looking for any info on carlos mainly.  I think it should be fine for my 15 year old brother to start at.  I'm not doubting carlos, just curious.

I've known Eddie for 18 years, long before he started training in BJJ, and I believe I know Carlos as well, I think he trained with us at Francis Fong's school in the old days.

Eddie does not give out rank to many people, and never very fast. All are legitimate ranks.

Eddie is definately old school BJJ and got his BB from Pedro at the same time as Frank Cucci. I also think GM Helio gave him his first degree about a year later....

He got his purple from Jacare. He then left to open a mc dojo under Pedro. I heard he used to be really tough back in the day. He taught at Alliance when Jacare was in Brazil.

You might want to clarify if you mean Carlos or Eddie...

Eddie got all his belts from Pedro.

He moved to SLC from Atlanta to train with Pedro in 96, moved back as a blue belt and trained at Jacare's and taught some as well.

He started his own group under Pedro as a small garage type deal, then opened Tiger Academy based on Frank Cucci's format.

He has produced some seriously good BJJ people, including 3 people who got their own black belts under Pedro (Steve Broughman, Mickey Swafford, and Jamie Gavsie).
