Hi Robert -

In your recent interview about Roger Gracie, you were pretty specific about his strengths and what makes him so tough, especially in the gi.  While you mentioned that Roger is human and has weaknesses, you didn't really indicate what you thought they are.

Could you elaborate on what you see as Roger's weaknesses and how they could be exploited?

Do you consider yourself American or Brazilian?

Are you planning on fighting Roger in the adcc superfight next year?

I'm going to be in Vegas this weekend.  What's the drop-in situation?  Gi/nogi?  Any women training there?

How do you prepare yourself mentally for a match with Roger Gracie (or additionally, how do you prepare yourself if you are facing a grappler with a strong reputation whom you have never fought before)?

Who is running your club out in SP now?

Why didn't you do the absolute at the Asian Games?

Robert,

On your leg locks portion of Nth dimension: I've been working that spin underneath my opponent's knee on belly to catch the kneebar.

I'm finding the only way I can execute well is to bump first then spin. When I bump first, some of my opponents are realizing that the knee bar will follow and stand straight up out of it. Is there a hook or a grip I can learn to hold onto my opponent, thus keeping him secure as I spin under?

Much appreciated, and I love the Nth dimension instructional.

This question isn't directed towards your DVD instructional set.

Do you think instructors put their "good" moves or show the necessary details on DVD instructional sets?

Or do they show the stuff they think will sell, while holding back their best moves for competition?
What, me hurry?

Was competing in your 1st MMA fight more nerve racking than your 1st big tournament?

Aloha Robert! This is John-Michael from Relson's. Thanks again for the referrals in Rio; had a great time training.
My question is pretty simple, can I have some stickers?

What is your opinion of the half guard in MMA?

top, bottom, or both?  (just trying to help)

Being in the top half guard is rarely a problem in MMA.

Hello everyone!
First of all I want to apologize I haven't responded in the last few days. But as you can all imagine I've been very busy with the new school, training myself and Frank for his upcoming fight with Minotauro.
Anyway, I'll be answering your questions as often as possible. Also, in case I haven't made myself clear in any of these answers or if my answers raise more questions, feel free to further the debate on this forum or by emailing me at robert@robertdrysdale.net
Hope I can help you guys out as much as possible.
Here we go

What is your opinion of the half guard in MMA?

I'm assuming you mean bottom, right? There is the right time to use it. Personally I wouldn't go for it, but if you end up in the position you should know how to react and and since you're there, you might as well try to attack your opponent. I've always tried to learn as much as possible and not to neglect any new knowledge. You can always argue that this position is better than that position, but to say "no I don't want to learn that" is plain stupidity and anyone who thinks that way doesn't belong in the MMA world. Learn as much as possible and figure out what works best for YOU. Also, you have to remember that the whole premises of the half-guard is to be able to get underneath your opponent with a good and solid underhook. If you don't get that, I highly recommend you abort and go back to open guard or to your knees. In other words, the half-guard is a GO position and not a stay/chill position.
