I don't think he understands that criticism is a good thing... The problem isn't the online training, its the COST of the online training. \

Ummmm... Speak for yourself.  IMO, the problem is absolutely online training.  Research in school settings (not Jiu Jitsu, but K-12) indicates that teacher quality, more than any other factor, is the largest indicator of student achievement.  I think that this is very much the same in bjj.  Strictly "training online," (which sounds retarded btw) does not allow for direct access to high quality instruction, even if the instructor is high quality - as Rener put it, (and it's about the only thing I'd agree with in his letter)Jiu Jitsu is something that needs to be "felt".  When high quality instruction is present, this is an ongoing process where adjustments are constantly being made as need be (if those other   factors are present in the student - skill, dedication, etc.) In the absence of direct access to a LIVE instructor, what start out as minor mistakes in technique become bad habits; bad habits then start building upon one another.  Eventually, we have practitioners who say they're X rank, but when paired with someone who has the same rank who has had access to live instruction, these people don't stand a chance.

Why am I being quoted for something I didn't say?   ???

Rener Gracie posted a statement regarding some concerns people had.

Personally I hope there is mass promotions in record time.  I figure it will increase the chances of my saying that I finally beat a black belt in competition  ;D

See what 4th Degree Black Belt, Draculino has to say about Online belts, listen to the second question.

This is an interview that I did with my boss and instructor, Professor Draculino after receiving some questions from sherdoggers.

The whole difference between BJJ and many other martials arts is live competition and the ability to utilize the entire art in live competition. i don't really care who says what about what belt they supposedly are. I want to know their competition record and who they've beaten. BJJ is the answer to these supposed issues. I'm always confused by people who whine about belts and who gets them when for this reason. I don't care if there a million people sitting around in dojos claiming to be black belts and don't understand why anone else does.

Competition, for me, has been a way to find the holes in my game as i strive for improvement. I try to compete regularly. I know many of my fellow students who don't compete though, this shouldn't be a gauge of legitimacy. It seems to me those who compete progress faster, but competition is only one aspect of  the art. I know many guys who are black belts who don't compete. I never questioned their legitimacy, it not my place to. I also never cared to question their competition record(I've been crushed by a few of said guys in training, that was enough validation for me)

This is is a special interview in between part 1 and 2 responding to some comments.

After posting the initial interview, we received a lot of support...but there were a few guys who train only at home and earn online belts who disagreed with Draculino. One guy in particular was making ridiculous comments including comments that said Graice Barra doesn't teach you self defense and we are less effective in street fights than Online Gracie University Students, because we don't simulate punches in class....I happen to have the camera up and going already and showed him some of the comments including this one....

GJJ Fighter: "Well what annoys me is when all these ppl come on here talking about throwing slaps or fight simulation drills when all they do at there school is roll around on the ground not simulating any punches at all! That annoys me. O and something else that annoys me is when they dont even go a 100 percent rolling."

This is was his response
