In an unexpected turn of events I recently accepted a job offer from the government to work on the Crow Creek Indian Reservation (Fort Thompson) in South Dakota. The reservation is the home to about 1500 Native Americans. I will be the reservation's Clinical Psychologist. I am very excited about this opportunity which I can't see as being anything less than amazing/rewarding. The Crow Creek reservation is the poorest community in the United States with a per capita income of around $5000. I plan to talk to the Tribal Council to see if there is any interest in starting an after school jiu-jitsu club. Everything (i.e., classes, gis, patches) will be free. I can't think of a better way to give back to one of the most underserved populations in the U.S. The jiu-jitsu team will consist soley of Native Americans. Talk about warrior spirit!

This sounds amazing I hope you are truly successful. Having family that still lives on the reservation in missouri I certainly understand the deplorable living conditions of most native americans.

You should talk to them about starting a casino.  That should fix that per capita problem.

    Hey Aaron!

This sounds really great!  When Liz and I were on our cross country road trip in September, we spent a couple of days in South Dakota, and man was the land just amazing!  Between the Black Hills, the Badlands, Deadwood, Sitting Bull Crystal Caverns, and the largest rocking chair in the world, I was really just in love with that state.  It seems really desolate in a lot of places, but absolutely astonishing in natural beauty.
I will come and visit you if you move there for sure!

Here's a pic of me in the worlds' largest rocking chair:

This is awesome! It will be good to have another good gym in the area! This is Bruce Hoyer I live in Sioux Falls, but grew up on the reservation south of the crow creek area (for those that are thinking, man he doesn't look Indian .... I'm not. Guys like JustScrap use to beat me up everyday before gym class.... ah that was too personal). There is actually a bunch of guys in the crow creek area that already train there. They have no idea what they are doing but eager to learn??

To everyone that bashes South Dakota. I love it here, sure So Cal is nice for the beach and the city life is nice but its pretty, the people are nice, a ton of hiking trails and stuff to do and even a night club here and there. I love traveling to big cities to train and compete, but its nice when I go to a store and know 60% of the people walking around! ha plus we have an infinite number of Wolf t shirts.

Thanks for the encouragement Bruce. I will try to make it out to Sioux Falls every so often. I know it's a hike, but I got Jiu-Jitsu in my blood. Good to know there are people in the Crow Creek area interested in training. I'm looking forward to it.
