NHB Gear has been in business since 1998 and, as one of the original MMA & BJJ gear companies, we are still in business due to our obsessive focus on customer service and offering the highest quality products available. NHB Gear values customer service and quality merchandise above all else and our loyal customers are a testament to those principles. Many of our customers have been with us for years and years. In 2008, we opened the first MMA fight shop in the Washington DC Metro area. Our fight shop is still the only retail store in Northern Virginia where you can try on a BJJ gi or purchase MMA or Muay Thai gear in person.
The “No Holds Barred” logo of a smiling, battered face represents the blood, sweat, tears, bumps, scrapes, and bruises that are par for the course in combat sports and martial arts, be it MMA, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, or any others. Like us, our customers are a unique breed of athletes and enthusiasts with a love of the game many simply cannot comprehend. NHB Gear represents this spirit.
Custom Gi Patches
NHB Gear pioneered the use of Dye Sublimation for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Jiu Jitsu gi patches and rash guards back in 2003 well before ANYONE was doing it. Simply put, there is NO ONE on the planet who knows more about dye sublimation for gi patches than we do! We focus on printing high-quality custom dye sublimated patches, rash guards, and t-shirts specifically for the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts community. At NHB Gear, we understand what gear works and what gear doesn’t because we are owned and operated by Jiu Jitsu practitioners. We wouldn’t print or sell anything we wouldn’t use ourselves. PERIOD. Our long list of loyal customers include some of the biggest names in Jiu Jitsu and combat sports: Alliance, Atos, Big John McCarthy, Brasa, Carlson Gracie, Checkmat, Drysdale Jiu Jitsu, Gracie Barra, Grapplers Quest, Jean Jacques Machado, Marcos “Yemaso” Torregrosa, Ralph Gracie, Relson Gracie, Royce Gracie, Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira, Straight Blast Gym, Zenith/Cavaca BJJ, and many, many more.
What is “dye sublimation” and why is it the best?
Dye sublimation is a process that allows us to digitally reproduce any color and complex design imaginable and to transfer that design to fabric patches, rash guards, and t-shirts. One of the biggest problems with traditional screen printed patches is that they crack, peel, or fade with age and use; not good for Jiu Jitsu patches. Our process solves this problem because, unlike traditional screen-printing, the sublimation process literally dyes the fibers of the fabric, instead of simply painting on top of them. The designs on your patches will not crack, peel, or flake away with age. Once your patches are sewn on and cared for properly, they will likely outlast the gi.
What are your patches made of?
After 100’s of hours of research and testing to find the perfect balance between fabric strength, weight, feel, and dye readiness, we have found the absolute BEST materials to print sublimated patches on. Our patches are made of heavy-duty polyester and come in two types: canvas and satin. Our canvas patches have a texture and feel just like traditional gi patch fabric, whereas our satin patches have a higher thread count and a noticeable sheen producing more “pop”. Both are of the highest quality, super durable, and can take any design you submit. Do not accept inferior substitute fabrics!
Where can I find examples of your work?
